Potential for implementation of micro energy networks in Cuba
Main Article Content
Abstract
In terms of energy management, transmission and use, a paradigm shift is taking place at the international level where information and communication technologies are integrated into the generation, transmission, distribution and consumption of this resource at all levels. The problem to be solved, in the case of Cuba, is to contribute to greater energy efficiency, independence and security of service in the National Electro-Energy System (SEN) by creating its national structure through microgrids.
The study evaluates the opportunities for the introduction of energy microgrids with renewable energy sources (RES) in Cuban conditions; it identifies the potentials for the projection of this technology in isolated communities of the SEN in the five eastern provinces of the country through the characterisation of these areas and the application of a methodology that determines the feasibility of a microgrid project in these territories.
