Abstract

Preliminary studies revealed the potential of the channels between cays and islets in the north of the municipality of Martí, mainly the possibility of taking advantage of the kinetic energy of the currents produced by the tides in the following channels: La Manuí Canal; The Boat Channel; Juan Claro Channel, Juan Clarito Channel. The preliminary potentialities of the first two channels were exposed in the work: the Los Barcos channel and the La Manuí channel, which are those that have the easiest access today and are the ones that have a previous study, are expected in a second opportunity If financing is available, carry out the study of the Juan Claro and Juan Clarito channels.


With the execution of this project, it would be possible to have a system of electricity generation in Matanzas using renewable sources (taking advantage of the tides), in addition to having at hand a higher level of information, education and general culture in this type of technology, to the Perhaps a considerable economic impact can be achieved, since it would generate clean energy avoiding the use of non-renewable fossil fuels and environmental pollutants. It would be the first step in Cuba for the future generalization of the use of tidal currents and rivers to generate electricity from the kinetic energy of hydraulic currents.
