Abstract

The behavior of a good distribution of world solar radiation, the remarkable decrease of system costs and PV kWh in a sustained way during 50 years is shown. Special emphasis is given to module costs and the increase in utility-scale installations. The speed of development of PV is higher compared to other sources of electricity generation. The extreme dependence of the Cuban mix on fossil fuels, as well as the lack of liquidity in MLC for the import of fossil fuels, is argued as a difficulty. From the strategic point of view, it is necessary to increase in the medium and long term the number of PV installations in the country in order to achieve energy sovereignty.
